Heel Pain Relief

Chiropractic Care For Heel & Foot Pain

Your heels bear and distribute your body’s pressure each day whenever you stand or walk. The heel bone is called Calcaneus and provides balance and stability at the back of your foot. Pain in your heel can be particularly frustrating as walking is essential to almost every daily task. Our chiropractors in Lebanon, TN diagnose and treat many different causes of heel pain.

Causes of Heel Pain

These are some of the common causes of heel pain:

  • Plantar fasciitis - Inflamed connective tissue on the bottom of your foot

  • Irritated or compressed nerves leading to or around the heel.

  • A partial or full tear of the Achilles tendon.

  • Rubbing from poorly fitting shoes.

  • Stress fractures typically caused by excessive running.

  • Heel spur - An abnormal bone growth resulting from too much tension within the foot.

If you have the following symptoms, you should seek chiropractic care for your foot pain:

  • Foot discomfort while walking or running

  • Sharp heel pain, especially first thing in the morning

  • Heel pain that persists while at rest

  • Discoloration and swelling near the heel

  • The foot or ankle has a decreased range of motion

Treatments that Offer Heel Pain Relief

Depending on the cause of your heel pain, the chiropractic treatments your doctor may use include:

  1. Rest. For some causes of heel pain it is important to reduce or refrain from running or prolonged walking in order to allow the foot to heal.

  2. Manual therapy. This therapy can reduce tension within the foot, plantar fascia, or adjacent muscles of the foot or leg allowing for improved motion and function of the foot and ankle.

  3. Shoe Inserts or Custom Orthotics. Your doctor may recommend inserts that will be placed in your shoe during daily use.

  4. Stretches and Exercise. If tight or lax muscles cause pain in your heels, your doctor will prescribe exercises and/or stretches to help relieve it.

  5. Laser therapy. Laser therapy helps promote healing of damaged tissue in cases such as plantar fasciitis or ligament sprains.

  6. Dry Needling. Dry needling can help encourage proper healing of chronically injured or scarred tissue in the foot.
